Any weird sound your Amana washer makes is a serious case for alarm. Surely, all appliances get overused with the time and require a diagnostic, however, it might be a breakdown. As with most things, it’s best to start your washing machine repair with checking a drive pulley. The drive pulley is a wheel like mechanism that rotates the inner tub of the washing machine, in short, it’s an important component in a washing machine but it can also run into a number of issues. The drive pulley is connected by a belt to the motor and over time this can become loose or the motor can lose power. Both of these problems can cause a noisy spin cycle with a lot of banging but thankfully in the majority of cases, a professional technician should be able to fix it for you. While you can access the drive pulley easily but we do not recommend fixing it yourself. The tub bearing of your unit also could be defective. The tub bearing is under the washing machine’s tub and it’s what allows the tub to move and spin freely without any resistance. This bearing can wear out over time and when they do the banging noises will get louder and louder. The wash basket may also spin unevenly if the washing machine is not level. The washer must be level both from front to back and from side to side, and all four of its feet must be touching the ground. If you can rock the machine back and forth diagonally from corner to corner, its feet are not secure and level. Do not overload your washing machine as well. If the machine is properly loaded, the clothes will usually distribute themselves naturally so that they are relatively balanced around the basket during the spin cycle.
