GE ranges are not so complicated in design, but any gas appliance is risky for DIY repair. If you face any defects, it is better to contact a service center that repairs gas ranges. Specialists will be able to quickly and safely eliminate the issues as well as provide a long-term warranty for repaired units. It is a common breakdown when burners and oven refuse to light up. There are a couple of steps you can try out before calling a Pro. However, we recommend you try out several tips:
- Turn your burner to the Lite position. If you hear clicking or sparking, it is necessary to clean the burner and electrode. First remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Use a needle or paper clip to poke through the holes on the burner head. Re-assemble and try to light the burner.
- Remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Even if it looks clean, wipe the tip of the electrode with a clean, dry paper towel and PRESS IT DOWN. Re-assemble and try the burner again.
- Check your circuit breakers. If the circuit breaker is OK, continue diagnostics.
- Check to see if the burner works. Make sure that each burner top matches its burner bottom. The burner top will lay flat if put on correctly.
- If the spark igniter is operating properly, but the burner is still not lighting, please schedule a service appointment.
In all cases when the burner on the gas range does not burn well, the cause can be in the gas supply systems and it is most correct to immediately contact qualified specialists. Most modern gas ranges are equipped with gas leakage protection, however, it is better to avoid risking your safety and proper appliance functioning.
