If you have an electrical Hotpoint range, you might have already experienced wiring issues. Some of them are minor and don’t take too much time to resolve, others can pose serious fire or electrocution hazards. Anytime you work with wiring, be sure to turn off the circuit at the main breaker panel. Problems with wiring can cause short circuits in all types of electrical appliances, including electric ovens. When an electric oven shorts out, it can be due to wires that have inadequate insulation and come into contact with one another or conductive parts of the oven, such as the metal frame. Frayed wires are a sign of a risk of short circuits, so replace damaged wiring that you notice before a short occurs. If a short circuit does occur, unplug the oven and inspect the wiring for signs of damage. New wires will solve the problem and prevent future short circuits. High resistance also requires wiring repair. The high resistance causes heating, which causes higher resistance, which leads to more heating. Eventually the insulation on the wire starts to melt, and/or burn. Usually the heat will transfer through the terminal block, and into the smaller wiring in the stove. When the heat becomes too much, the smaller appliance wiring will fail and open the circuit. In most cases this is not a super dangerous event, as the wiring is contained within the stove. However, there is a chance that this can lead to a fire in the house, especially if the cover is not properly installed. Some problems are possible to fix only with the right tools and skills, so to keep the warranty valid and unit functional, it is at your best interest to contact a professional electrician.
