Having bought and installed an air conditioner, owners begin to use it in the same way as any other household appliances. The main principle sounds like ‘Let it work until it breaks down’. However, for a HVAC system, such maintenance is likely to be finished with a serious breakdown. This feature concerns both inexpensive models and premium air conditioners. The difference is that in more expensive models there are more degrees of protection against misuse and such air conditioners simply "refuse" to turn on even with a slight deviation from normal usage. As filters become dirty, the air flow through the evaporator will begin to decrease, as a result the air in the room will be less cooled. Another problem that occurs when filters are clogged is blockage of the drain system with dust. Connect the Trane air conditioner to a live power outlet if it is not operational. Reset or replace the fuse or circuit breaker if needed. Clean the filter if the air conditioner is not maintaining an accurate cooling temperature. Turn it off and unplug it, and then open the main access panel. Slide out the filter and clean with a few drops of dish washing liquid and cold water. Rinse well and air dry completely. Restore the filter in the air conditioner with the arrows pointed in the air flow direction. Use a mild household cleaner to remove grease spots on the air conditioner exterior. Avoid using chemicals or solvents to clean the unit, as these can damage the finish. Completely close the blower door if the air conditioner has power but isn’t working. Turn the thermostat to a lower setting and allow time for the air conditioner to function. Clear the area around the air conditioner of bushes, leaves, dirt, or debris if the machine seems to be running constantly or not cooling well. Remove the cover from the air conditioner when the unit is in use and ensure that objects are not stacked against the unit. Debris and other material can reduce the air flow and reduce overall productivity. If you’re not able to get the problem resolved with the above troubleshooting tips, have an experienced HVAC professional investigate further to identify the cause.
