When your Thermador hood is not working, don’t hesitate and repair it sooner. If the range hood doesn’t pull in air and the blower starts only with a hand, the blower motor is likely malfunctioning. If the fan on the range hood does not come on, check that the fan switch is in working order. Use a meter to check the fan switch. Before troubleshooting any range hood problem, turn off the circuit breaker on the service panel that controls the fan hood circuit. The battery inside your meter provides the power needed for this test. A simple power on and off switch, which will be the only switch on a single-speed hood fan, will have two wires attached to it. Disconnect the two wires by unscrewing their wire nuts and attaching the meter’s test probes to them. Multi-speed hood fans have a wire exiting the switch for each speed as well as the power input wire that is common to all the other output wires. Check for continuity individually between the common lead and each of the other wires. Remove the common wire from the switch by pulling the push-on terminal free with the pliers or by loosening the terminal screw with the screwdriver and slipping the wire out from under it. If the fan switch is in working order, check the fan motor. Use a meter to find out if the range hood fan motor is faulty. If faulty, replace the motor with a new one. Regular hood cleaning will prolong the life of your appliance. Preventative care, even in small amounts, will help save on expensive repairs or even a Thermador hood replacement later on.
