Is your Kenmore washer/dryer squeaking? A sound similar to a creak or whistle may appear without any obvious reason. The washing cycle was the same as ever. Then, the unit creaked. That happens if your appliance is not new or you use it too often. The washer may start making such sounds after the bearings have been changed as well. Some dryers use a bearing to support the back of the drum. It can be set up like a ball and socket or shaft with a sleeve bushing. A squeaking or squealing noise may indicate the bearing has worn. To determine if this is the problem, a technician will need to remove the dryer belt and then turn the drum by hand. If it turns hard and the dryer makes a grinding noise when spinning, he’ll replace the drum bearing. If the bearing isn't cracked or otherwise noticeably bad, you can usually solve the issue simply by lubing the bearing with a high temp grease. Replacing bearings belongs to the highest category of complexity, because to complete this operation you have to almost completely disassemble the washing machine. The idler pulley provides tension to the drum belt to prevent slippage when the dryer has a load in it. However, increased friction may cause the dryer to squeak or squeal as the idler pulley starts to wear because of its high-speed rotation. As it wears further, the noise will sound like a loud scraping or thumping. A technician will need to remove the belt to check the idler pulley operation. Any binding, wear, or wobble will require replacement. No need to risk your appliance safety, delegate all routine to a professional assistant.
