If your KENMORE Elite side by side refrigerator has stopped making ice, don’t be quick to call a maintenance specialist. Most likely the freezer temperature is higher than - 12 degrees. If so, the ice maker won’t produce ice cubes properly. The freezer section temperature must be set between -18 and -15 ° C for the ice maker to work properly. If the freezer temperature is too high, make sure the condenser coils are free of dust and the condenser fan is working properly. Also, check if ice has accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the evaporator coils have been frozen, the defrost system is out of order. Remove the front plate from the ice maker to locate the On/Off control panel. Turn off, unplug your refrigerator for 5 minutes, plug back in, and switch the ice maker back to the "On" position. Turn the ice maker back on and return the cover plate. Close the freezer and allow the machine to cycle through and fill ice trays before further troubleshooting. If the problem persists after you've tried resetting the unit, check your user's manual for additional troubleshooting ideas. If ice has ceased being made all of a sudden, then there could be ice stuck in the ejector arm. This can happen accidentally from people reaching in and grabbing ice. The ejector arm can get stuck in the off position and go unseen until no ice drops from the trays. One of the parts in the ice maker unit may be defective. Since many ice maker parts are not sold separately, you may need to purchase and replace the entire ice maker assembly. Check the water inlet valve, water supply line, and fan before replacing the ice maker assembly. If none of these parts are broken and the freezer temperature is at least -10 degrees, replace the ice maker assembly.
