One of the most unpleasant problems of using a refrigerator is the appearance of extraneous noise or vibration. In such cases, independent attempts to correct the situation are unlikely to lead to a positive result, it is better to contact a professional refrigerator repairman. After all, the reason for the noise can be not only the failure of some of the parts, but a common mistake when installing and connecting equipment - if the equipment is connected by a person without the necessary knowledge and tools. If the refrigerator makes too much noise, it is better to deal with the issue immediately: you may be able to prevent serious damage, for example, a complete failure of the compressor. If you have an intention to check anything before calling a Pro, make sure your GE refrigerator is installed correctly: strictly leveled, 1-2 degrees, tilt back, the distance from the wall or furniture should be at least 5-7 cm. Try placing special anti-vibration pads under the refrigerator feet to compensate for uneven floors. What else you need to test is a defrost heater. The defrost heater is the key component in the system that melts away the frozen condensation from the coils. When this component malfunctions, the defrost will either not work at all or will stay on permanently. Burned out heaters will result in no defrosting, while the heater remaining on constantly indicates a problem in the wiring or another component. Such vibrating or pulsating sound you hear may be an indication of the problems with the defrost heater. Have an appliance repair person check out this component if other troubleshooting comes up empty. A sound coming from underneath (like a playing card hitting bicycle spokes) may indicate something hitting the condenser fan blade. Unplug the refrigerator before checking underneath.
- Pull the refrigerator away from the wall.
- Remove the cover at the bottom on the back of the fridge (this usually takes a 5/16" hex head screwdriver). If you do not have a NeverClean condenser, the fan blade will now be visible. Check the fan blade for an obstruction such as a cheese wrapper, a credit card slip, etcetera. If there is an obstruction which is a large rubber strip, this will require service. This rubber strip is an air divider that helps provide proper air flow underneath the refrigerator. It is very important that it gets correctly reinstalled. Otherwise, you can simply remove anything else that may be obstructing the fan blade.
- Reinstall the rear cover.
- Plug the unit back in.
- Push the fridge back in position.
Always get professional help if you are not sure about how to replace damaged or faulty parts of your GE refrigerator.
