In case you start hearing weird noise out of the heater it’s time to check your appliance. Heaters can make a variety of terrifying noises. Each one indicates a different type of problem. Some of these sounds are warnings. If you hear them, you need to turn your furnace off right away and call a professional furnace repair technician as soon as possible. Rattling or vibrating sounds are usually a cause for concern. Most of the time, you can make a few quick fixes on your own and the noises will go away. These types of sounds mean a few ducts inside your furnace are coming loose. There are a couple of different ways you can take care of this problem. If you have the right size screws, use them to tighten the loose ducts back into place. If you don't have screws, you can also secure the ducts with a few pieces of duct tape. In some cases, the furnace itself might be rattling against the floor. Use a pry bar to lift the unit off the floor enough to slip a rubber pad underneath. This should make the noise stop. Whether you're using a heat pump or a gas furnace, broken equipment means it's time to pull out the space heaters, put on thick jackets, and endure a whole lot of discomfort. At least until your HVAC guy shows up.
