When the oven part of the unit still works, but the microwave portion seems to have gone kaput, the owners are hoping there's some way to repair the problem with the microwave (at most only replacing the component) rather than have to replace the entire unit. Fortunately, a professional service is able to fix the microwave and return it to efficient working condition. If the microwave turns on but does not heat, checking a few settings and the installation will help resolve the issue. This applies to both regular microwave heating and convection heating. Make sure the door closes completely. If the door is not completely shut, the microwave may run but will not heat. Use a damp cloth to wipe the door and frame of the microwave; debris could be preventing it from closing properly. Check the clearance to the left, right, above, and behind the microwave. The space requirements vary from model to model and are included in the user manual. If the microwave does not have enough clearance, it will be unable to vent properly. It will either not heat or have weak heat. If your microwave is not turning on, or if it is turning off by itself, it could have overheated. When a microwave has been in use for a long time and overheats, just give it 30 minutes to cool off and then try to use it again. Otherwise, you'll need to check the light, the outlet, and the power cord. Check the circuit breaker for the microwave to see if it has been tripped. Test another device in the outlet to see if it is working. Look for any damage to the cord (cracks, fraying, chafing) or the plug. If the circuit breaker trips again while the microwave is unplugged, the problem is with your house's wiring. Contact an electrician. If the wiring has been damaged, or the circuit breaker does not trip with the microwave unplugged, arrange a maintenance visit to run a full diagnostic.
