Almost every modern kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher. Without this appliance it is hard to imagine a comfortable life. But how often do you clean this device? Many customers have no idea that the dishwasher needs cleaning as well as any other machine. A general cleaning of the dishwasher should be done every six months. In fact, we recommend cleaning your dishwasher once a month to prolong proper work and omit facing a clogged drain line. Finished the cycle, food, grease, detergent, as well as deposits and limescale remain on individual parts of the machine, which will negatively affect the quality of the wash in the future. Also, over time, dishwasher parts become clogged, which can lead to a serious breakdown. If you want to have clean dishes and troubleshoot your Miele dishwasher less often, then carry out constant care of the dishwasher. Leave the door open after each wash. This will help moisture to evaporate faster and prevent mold from forming. Wipe the door gasket with a dry sponge. Clean the outside of the dishwasher with a damp cloth. In case when you already have a clogged drain line, continue reading. Your Miele dishwasher drain hose connects the drain pump to your garbage disposal, air gap, or sink drain to deposit dirty water. Given the position of this hose under the sink or behind the dishwasher, it can bend and prevent water from draining. Check the hose for bends or kinks, gently straightening it if needed. In other instances, food particles can clog a drain hose and prevent proper drainage. Follow these steps to remove drain hose blockages:
- Consult your user manual to access the location of your model’s drain hose.
- Place a towel under the hose and disconnect it from the drain pump.
- Blow through the hose to determine if a clog prevents air from passing through.
- Carefully remove clogs with a screwdriver or straightened coat hanger before reconnecting the hose to the drain pump.
If the clog cannot be reached through the drain pump connection, replace the hose and attempt to reach it via the disposal’s connection. If the blockage still cannot be reached the drain hose should be replaced. Give us a call for more details!
