The more tightly the door adjoins the refrigerator, the longer the low temperature remains there and the food is stored properly. If you notice that the refrigerator door does not stick as it used to, or it is constantly moving away, you should not ignore this breakdown. Indeed, in the future, this can lead to wear and tear on many important and expensive parts. The gasket is the rubber seal that goes around the edge of the inner door. This helps to make sure proper cooling continues and to avoid moisture issues inside the unit. If the gasket on a refrigerator, freezer, or Wine Storage door is ripped, torn, or cracked, it should be replaced. Gasket life can vary based on use. Sticky residue and spills that stay on the gasket will lead to premature wear or cracking. Heavy use causes the gasket to last for a shorter amount of time. Keep door gaskets clean to prolong life. Some door gaskets have stronger pull than others. This is a normal result of many variables, including magnetism, food load inside the unit, ambient temperature and drain pan water content. The loss of suction should not present an issue with the Sub-Zero, as long as there are no visible differences in the unit's performance, such as temperature change, condensation build-up, frost or ice build-up, service messages, or error codes.
- Verify power is turned on. The unit should be on 24 hours before the product is stored in it.
- Verify Condenser Is Clean.
- Inspect the door gasket for tears or ripples and replace if needed.
- Make sure there is no interference with the product holding the door open.
- Check the control setting for proper setpoints.
- If a product is not installed properly, the door may not seal. Level the unit per installation instructions.
- If the unit shows no sign of Excessive Moisture or Warm Temperature Issues, the door gasket is working as expected and no repairs are available.
- Undercounter Ice Makers do not create the same vacuum suction as refrigeration units, as the ice bin is not refrigerated.
If the door opens easily after gasket replacement, verify gasket was installed properly. A new gasket needs time to form to the door. As long as there are no temperature or moisture issues, the gasket is working as it should. If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact our customer support to schedule an appointment for repair. Sub-Zero recommends that a service technician completes any door or drawer gasket replacement.
