When the freezer won’t cooling, it’s a real problem that must be fixed immediately. There are a lot of issues. Most common and simple solutions are: to clean refrigerator condenser coils and to replace defrost thermistor. We have prepared for you two instructions that must solve your problem with Sub-Zero ref 700.
Let’s start with cleaning the condenser coils. Unplug the refrigerator or shut off the circuit breaker for the refrigerator. To access the condenser coils, remove the bottom front toe grill. On many refrigerator models, you can pull the grill straight out and off of the refrigerator. Check your owner's manual for instructions for removing the front toe grill on your refrigerator. If the coils are under the refrigerator, remove the toe grill to access the coils. Push a coil brush into the condenser coils under the refrigerator. The coil brush knocks the dust off of the condenser coils. Vacuum the area to pick up the dust. After knocking the dust from the coils with a coil brush, vacuum the dust. Snap the bottom front toe grill onto the front of the refrigerator. The coils are either at the back of the refrigerator or under it. Slide the refrigerator far enough away from the wall that you can unplug it; you might want to set cardboard in front of it to protect wood or vinyl flooring. Then continue sliding it away from the wall until you can comfortably work behind it.
Now you must replace the defrost thermistor.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Move your frozen food from the freezer to the refrigerator section during this repair.
- Remove the spacer in the freezer shelf. Push the shelf to the left to release the right side of the shelf from the holes. Pull the shelf out of the freezer.
- Remove the mounting screws from the evaporator cover. Pull the top of the evaporator cover down and unplug the evaporator fan wire harness. Push the evaporator cover to the left side of the freezer and disconnect the green ground wire and the ice maker wire harness from the evaporator cover. Pull the evaporator cover out of the freezer.
- Note: The defrost thermistor is a component of the freezer harness in this refrigerator. Unplug the wires from the defrost heater. Release the defrost bi-metal thermostat and the defrost thermistor from the evaporator coils. Unplug the freezer wire harness from the back wall and remove it.
- Plug the new freezer wire harness into the back wall receptacle. Attach the defrost bi-metal thermostat and defrost thermistor to the evaporator. Connect the wires to the defrost heater.
- Position the evaporator cover in the freezer compartment and reconnect the ice maker wire harness and ground wire. Push the evaporator cover to the center of the freezer compartment and reconnect the evaporator fan wire harness. Position the evaporator cover over the evaporator and reinstall the mounting screws.
- Push the shelf into the mounting holes on the left side of the freezer compartment wall. Slide the shelf to the right and reinstall the shelf spacer.
- Plug in the refrigerator to restore power.
