If you recently replaced the fridge water filter and the water / ice dispenser stops working, the filter was not installed correctly. The water filter on new refrigerators needs to be "Twist Locked" in place. If the water filter is not installed correctly, water will not flow and therefore ice or water will not come out of the dispenser. This is a very common problem with new refrigerators. Many times when customers replace the water filter, the ice maker stops working. It is often misdiagnosed and people think the ice maker is bad. The ice maker will never work if the water filter is not installed correctly. Most LG ice makers have an ON/OFF switch on the left-hand side. Make sure the switch is in the ON position or that the ice maker arm is down. Once the switch is turned on or the ice maker arm is down, it can take up to 24 hours for the ice maker to produce ice. If the switch or arm is in the right position but the ice maker isn’t producing ice after 24 hours, it may need to be reset. Follow these steps to reset your ice maker:
- Open the freezer’s ice room door and remove the ice bucket
- Place a towel below the ice maker to catch any ice or water
- Press and hold the test button below the ON/OFF switch for 3 seconds
- If the ice tray moves and water or ice spills out, the resetting process is complete and the ice maker should begin producing ice.
When the water inlet valve fails, you will not have water as well. In order to check the inlet valve, you just need a Multimeter. But keep in mind that LG fridges have 2 inlet valves. Main valve on the back of the fridge, secondary(for the ice maker) in the left door. You need to check them both. Secondary valve getting water from the main valve. As a rule, the secondary valve causes most of the problem with the ice maker. There is no need to puzzle over the source of malfunction. Give us a call to eliminate the issue without problems!
